Quezaltenango (Xela), Guatemala – Two couples sitting across from me start getting quite intimate and as this is quite uncommon to see in conservative Guatemala I whip out my camera and start snapping away. They are completely absorbed in their moment and uninterested in what I’m doing. Time passes and I lose interest until one of the men asks to see the photographs I took. I hand over my camera and offer to send him copies if he wants.
‘I want you to show these pictures’ he says. ‘There are no human rights for loving and being loved, and this is us expressing our human right to love.’
Imagine what it would feel like to be persecuted for loving someone.

Dear Damien, Thanks for sharing all your pictures and experiences!! I agree with you, you should not be discriminated for your sexual preference, for loving someone. Here in Mexico city the law to permit marriages between persons of the same gender, was just approoved, and many have expressed anger & discontent…Respect is the clue for peace,as Benito Juárez, former Mexico’s President, expressed!
